Old Philippine Map

I took this photo from one of the first pages of an old “Insight Guide” travel guide book (http://karlobenson.tumblr.com/post/1107966526/my-tour-guide-c-karlobenson) about the Philippines that I have in our bookshelves. If you will take a careful look at this map showcasing our fabulous archipelago, you will see that the Palawan group of islands is called Isla de Paragoa. Though I believe Palawan was called “Palao-Yu” by the early Chinese barter-men, it sounded sense anyway.

This map is actually a Dutch/French version of the 17th century showing the early Western concepts of the shape and position of the Philippines and the other bounding islands.
